Computers, Web & IT

I have both extensive academic qualifications in relation to computer science, and a wide range of workplace experience programming, setting up and maintaining websites, administering systems of various sorts, and providing advice - especially to small-to-medium non-profit organisations - on the best use of technology, including social media. As one might expect given other aspects of my background, I also have a particular interest in computer accessibility, and particular experience ensuring that websites are suitable for use by people with a range of impairments, including users of assistive technology such as Braille displays and screen readers.

In recent years, this work has been done in partnership with my wife, who also has IT qualifications. We complement each other well; while I have far greater knowledge of computing and a drive and ability to solve problems, she is much better at dealing with tasks that are repetitive yet require close attention. That is something a lot of people with ADHD, like myself, find difficult. She is also very helpful at keeping me on track, not disappearing down a rabbit-hole solving a problem that I don't actually need to solve. Her own IT skills are also extremely useful in our work.

If you're interested in work in this area, then if it is a matter of speaking or writing, I can operate on the same basis as in my other areas of expertise. For consulting, or concrete work such as upgrading or developing a website, you would be engaging both of us in partnership, based on reasonable hourly rates. For more details, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
